Collected bits of string, Collected
Collected dolls with broken heads And
And rusty bells not ring. Pieces
Pieces out of picture puzzles, Bent-up
Bent-up nails and ice-cream sticks, Twists
Twists of wires, worn-out tires, Paper
Paper bags and broken bricks. Old
Old chipped vases, half shoelaces, Gatlin'
Gatlin' guns that wouldn't shoot, Leaky
Leaky boats that wouldn't float And
And stopped-up horns wouldn't toot. Butter
Butter knives that no handles, Copper
Copper keys that no locks, Rings
Rings that were for fingers, Dried-up
Dried-up leaves and patched-up socks. Worn-out
Worn-out belts that no buckles, 'Lectric
'Lectric trains that no tracks, Airplane
Airplane models, broken bottles, Three-legged
Three-legged chairs and with cracks. Hector
Hector the Collector Loved
Loved these things his soul‹ Loved
Loved them more shining diamonds, Loved
Loved them more glistenin' gold. Hector
Hector called to the people, "Come
"Come and share treasure trunk!" And
And all the sightless people Came
Came and looked...and called it junk.=junk.
